It’s taken us just over a week to fully process what happened at the Academy on June 27th.  To be honest, we were expecting *maybe* a handful of people to show up.  At about 1:15pm we all realized that we were (gladly!) very, very wrong.  The Academy was PACKED with friends, family, alumi, salon owners/stylists and even some who just came because they thought the event was going to be a great time!

Our goal was very simple and consisted of two things:

  1. Raise as much money as we could for SMYAL to help support the work they do with LGBTQ+ youth.
  2. Showcase how incredibly talented each and every student that attends one of our programs is.

Well, we raised almost $2000 for SMYAL and are so excited to send our donation over this week!  2021 was the year we dedicated to not only becoming more involved in the DC community, but becoming involved in meaningful ways that are important to our Academy.  Being a place where we want to promote inclusivity, individuality and acceptance, SMYAL was the perfect organization to support through the Drag Race.

As for our 2nd goal, well, we think the photos speak for themselves.  We have included a sneak peak of some here, but head on over to our Facebook page to see the rest.  We can’t tell each and every one of our students how proud of them we are, how in awe of their talent we are, and how much they continually inspire us.

We can’t wait until next year’s Pride Month and an even bigger, better, BOLDER (is that possible?!?) Drag Race!

What separates us from other schools?
